C.A.S.H. Seeks Core Instructor(s) for School Facilities Leadership Academy – Submittal Deadline Extended to October 3

The School Facility Leadership Academy is an educational program designed to develop current and future leaders in the school facilities and maintenance arena.  Since its inception, we have graduated over 100 school facility leaders.

C.A.S.H. is currently seeking nominations for Core Instructors for the Academy.  Preference will be given to applicants currently working in a school district or applicants who have recently worked in a school district. One vacancy is certain and depending upon the quality of the applicants, a second Instructor may be selected as well. Terms are for one year and reviewed annually. Candidates must be active members of C.A.S.H. and possess the following qualifications:

Notice to Awarding Bodies Regarding SB 854-Public Works Legislation

The following notice was sent our recently from the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR)

Recently passed legislation (SB 854) made several changes to the laws governing how the Department of Industrial Relations administers and enforces prevailing wage requirements on public works projects.  Among other things, SB 854 established a new public works contractor registration program, covering all public works projects, to replace prior Compliance Monitoring Unit (CMU) and Labor Compliance Program (LCP) requirements for bond-funded and other specified projects.

Drought Response Outreach Program for Schools (DROPS): Now Accepting Applications

As of Thursday September 11, 2014, The State Water Resources Control Board (State Water Board), Division of Financial Assistance is accepting applications for the Drought Response Outreach Program for Schools (DROPS).  The application period closes on January 15, 2015.  Approximately $25.5 million of funding is available for this program, and because funding is limited and interest anticipated to be high, the State Water Board is encouraging applicants to apply early.

C.A.S.H. Joins ACSA, CSBA and CASBO in Effort to Provide Guidance on PCBs

In recent months, the potential presence of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in schools has been an issue that has gained national attention in the media and elsewhere.

PCBs were manufactured in the United States between 1950 and 1979, before their manufacture was banned by Congress due to concerns about their potential for adverse effects on health and the environment.  During that period, PCBs could be found in caulking and elastic sealant materials used for windows, door frames, stairways, masonry columns and other masonry building materials.  In addition, many old lighting systems contain ballasts that were manufactured with PCBs.
