1001 I Street-CalEPA Building Byron Sher Auditorium, Sacramento, CA 95814

The Living Schoolyards for Stormwater Management seminar will explore opportunities to enhance school grounds while improving the way we manage our stormwater.  The coupling of green schoolyards with stormwater management can improve urban ecological systems while enhancing water quality and supply. As California continues to navigate the impacts of drought, we must recognize that stormwater is a resource and California schools play a role in our response. This event is free to attend and will also be available for webcast.

By Californians for Quality Schools

CQSToday, the Californians for Quality Schools campaign announced that Senate Republican Leader Jean Fuller (R-Bakersfield) has endorsed the Kindergarten Through Community College Public Education Facilities Bond Act of 2016. The measure, which will appear on the November 2016 ballot, is a $9 billion state school facilities bond to adequately fund K-12 and community college school construction and modernization projects throughout the state. Prior to being elected to the California State Legislature, Senator Fuller dedicated over three decades of her life to education – serving much of her career as Superintendent of the largest K-8 school district in California.

“The current school facility financing program is critical for many smaller and rural school districts that cannot adequately raise the funds needed to build and modernize schools for their students,” said Senator Fuller. “By passing the school bond in November, the state will continue to invest in creating modern, safe schools that are equipped to help prepare students for a 21st Century economy.”

Wagner (R-Irvine) has endorsed the Kindergarten Through Community College Public Education Facilities Bond Act of 2016. The measure, a $9 billion state school facilities bond to adequately fund school construction and modernization projects throughout the state, will appear on the November 2016 ballot.

“When local communities partner with the state to get things done, we get results that fulfill the needs of individual communities,” said Assemblymember Wagner. “Passing the bond in November means continuing the successful partnership between the state, local districts, and the home building industry to adequately fund school facilities and create good paying jobs in communities throughout the state.”

Seeing Need for School Funding, Most Favor Proposition 30 Extension, Construction Bond

CQSPPICThe Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC), a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to informing and improving public policy in California through independent, objective, nonpartisan research, released a new statewide poll yesterday that found:

“Most Californians say state funding for their local public schools is inadequate, and most favor two proposals that are likely to be on the November ballot to increase it: an extension of the Proposition 30 tax increase on higher incomes and a bond measure to pay for school construction projects…

…Majorities of adults (64%) and likely voters (62%) favor extending for 12 years the Proposition 30 tax increase on earnings over $250,000 to fund education and health care, as an initiative now circulating for the November ballot would do. Asked how they would vote on a state bond measure to pay for school construction projects, most (76% adults, 63% likely voters) would vote yes. A bond measure for school construction projects has already qualified for the ballot.”

The PPIC Statewide Survey provides a voice for the public and likely voters on key policy issues facing the state. Read the entire poll here at the PPIC website.
