OPSC Holds Stakeholder Meeting to Review Career Technical Education Facility Program

Although the State Allocation Board (SAB) did not meet in July, the Office of Public School Construction (OPSC) convened a meeting to discuss the Career Technical Education Facilities Program (CTEFP) on Wednesday July 24th.  Specifically, the stakeholder meeting was intended to discuss the funding order of the CTEFP for potential future amendments to the School Facility Program (SFP) regulations.

What Environmental Issues Present the Biggest Challenge For Your Facility/Maintenance Department?

The CASH Environmental Committee has convened under the leadership of CASH Board Member Dwayne Mears (PlaceWorks) to advise the CASH Board and Legislative Advisory Committee on the increasing number of state environmental requirements broadly related to school siting (CEQA); water quality (example: lead testing); air quality (example: Healthy Schools Act/Use of Roundup) and energy efficiency (Cal GreenCode).

Guide and Checklist for Nonstructural Earthquake Hazards in California Schools

The seismic safety of California school buildings has always been a bedrock priority for CASH. In addition, the concern for the structural safety of school buildings; adequately securing the contents of classrooms that could potentially fall and injure students and staff during a seismic event is a key part of an effective school seismic safety plan.

For your reference, the following is a link to the Guide and Checklist for Nonstructural Earthquake Hazards in California Schools developed by the California Emergency Management Agency (Cal EMA), the Division of the State Architect (DSA), and the California Department of Education (CDE). The Guidebook provides detailed guidance and resources to assist school facility and maintenance departments meet state requirements for securing the contents of classrooms.
