Today the Senate Governance and Finance Committee approved AB 2235 (Buchanan), which proposes to place a school bond on the November 2014 state ballot, on a 6-0 vote. Assembly Member Buchanan’s presentation was brief and the list of support was long, including representatives from individual schools, K-12 education advocacy organizations, community colleges, labor organizations, business groups including the California Chamber of Commerce, and multiple businesses.
C.A.S.H. Board Chair Joe Dixon testified in strong support on behalf of C.A.S.H. AB 2235 has not received any “NO” votes to date. The bill will now move to the Senate Appropriations Committee (likely to meet after the legislative break which begins next week on Thursday, July 3rd and ends Monday, August 4th), which will allow members of the support coalition to continue their efforts to convince the Administration to support placing a school bond on the November 2014 ballot.
