As State and local funding sources become tighter, many school
districts are forced to provide a larger portion of their school facility
project funds from local sources at a time when local voters may not be
supportive of local revenue generating proposals.
This workshop will help you decide what type of local funding options
might be best given your local school district needs and circumstances
during this unprecedented fiscal situation. The workshop will:
• Detail the legal and practical requirements of various local
funding mechanisms including:
• 55% and two-thirds local bonds
• parcel taxes
• and School Facility Improvement Districts (SFIDs)
• Discuss the pros and cons of each option
• Advise on how to plan and implement a successful local
measure
• Discuss legal and practical obligations following a successful
election
• Discuss what steps and options are available if your local
measure should fail
