CASH_Logo_Web_Proof3Now is the time to join with the California School Boards Association, California Association of School Business Officials, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson, California State PTA , the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association and 120 school districts that have endorsed the $9 billion Kindergarten Through Community College Public Education Facilities Bond Act (State School Bond).

These 120 school board resolutions have identified over $23 billion in facilities need.  This demonstrates in no uncertain terms the need to pass the State School Bond.  Our stance will strengthen with each resolution received.  If you haven’t already, please ask your school board to pass a resolution (click here for a sample resolution which you may edit  to fit your needs) and return the resolution to Aileen Dalen at the CASH office.

If you have already passed a school board resolution, please encourage other districts in your area to do so. Click here for background information and a list of resolutions received to date.

Today, the Californians for Quality Schools campaign announced Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom has endorsed the Kindergarten Through Community College Public Education Facilities Bond Act of 2016, the $9 billion state school facilities bond that will appear on the November 2016 ballot.

“The lack of equal opportunity in a student’s educational experience has serious consequences for both the individual student and our state’s economic future. We know that a strong, equitable public education system is a powerful factor in children’s lives, which is why I’m supporting the state school facility bond that ensures every district is able to access funds to create modern 21st Century schools,” said Lt. Governor Newsom. “Every teacher and student needs and deserves a high quality teaching and learning environment that will help students thrive. Passing the bond in November will be a significant step towards that goal.”

CQSToday, the Californians for Quality Schools campaign announced that Alexandra “Alex” Gallardo-Rooker endorsed the Kindergarten Through Community College Public Education Facilities Bond Act of 2016. The measure, a $9 billion state school facilities bond to adequately fund school construction and modernization projects throughout the state, will appear on the November 2016 ballot.

“As Democrats we must fight to close the gap of income inequality and give our children the best possible public education. This begins in the classroom with our teachers but must extend to providing a safe, innovative environment for all of our students, in every classroom across the state. By passing this bond, we take one step closer to closing that gap,” remarked California Democratic Party 1st Vice Chair Alex Rooker. “I’m proud to join our Chairman John Burton, California State Superintendent Tom Torlakson, the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, the State Building and Construction Trades Council of California, the Faculty Association of Community Colleges, and the California State PTA in supporting this critical bond.”

The California School Boards Association (CSBA) announced in its May 2016 newsletter that it has endorsed the Kindergarten Through Community College Public Education Facilities Bond Act of 2016. CSBA is the nonprofit education association representing the elected officials who govern public school districts and county offices of education. With a membership of nearly 1,000 educational agencies statewide, CSBA brings together school governing boards, and administrators from districts and county offices of education to advocate for effective policies that advance the education and well-being of the state’s more than 6 million school-age children.

“The Kindergarten Through Community College Public Education Facilities Bond Act of 2016”
CSBA Position: SUPPORT

Backed by the Coalition for Adequate School Housing and the California Building Industry Association, this state general obligation bond measure totals $9 billion, $7 billion of which would be devoted to K-12 education: $3 billion for new facilities construction, $3 billion for modernization needs and $500 million each for charter schools and career technical education.

Statement from CSBA President Chris Ungar: “CSBA supports a strong, ongoing partnership between the state and local education agencies for the construction and modernization of school facilities. This bond measure helps continue the state and local partnership, and provides the state’s share to be matched with local funds, and it represents an important step in California’s efforts to prepare the next generation of our nation’s workforce.”
